IMPORTANT STEPS IN THE
CONVENTION BOOKINGS MODEL

1. The first step of the convention bookings model is to obtain historical convention/meeting data from the CVB. These data include, but are not limited to, the names of groups, dates of meetings, total room nights booked, peak room nights booked, dates the groups booked tentative, dates the groups booked definite, dates the groups canceled (if applicable), and market segment of the groups.

2. The second step involves creating a baseline for the model from a historical analysis of convention bookings.

3. The establishment of monthly room night targets must be performed in the early stages of the model. There are several ways in which these goals can be created. The CVB will provide substantial input in the creation of goals.

4. Current monthly bookings activity is compared to model results, specifically the model informs the CVB of what room night bookings “should be” and compares this figure with the current bookings. The CVB can then use the market segment analysis to identify prospective groups for problem months.
