James W. Logan became Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of New Orleans in July, 2007. Dean Logan has been a faculty member of the Department of Management as Professor of Strategic Management in the College of Business Administration since 1988. Prior to being named Dean, he was Executive Associate Dean for the College, where he was responsible for the curricular, administrative, and operational aspects of all graduate and undergraduate College programs.
During his tenure at UNO, Dr. Logan has worked to establish such programs as the Master of Science in Health Care, the Executive MBA program, of which he was director, the Master of Science in Engineering Management, and the concentration in Technology Management in the MBA program. He is chair of the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park advisory committee.
Dean Logan has worked with a large variety of technology related companies and organizations, primarily in the areas of technology management, the effect of new technology on corporate strategy, and increasing the innovation capacity in existing organizations. He has worked with grants and projects from the U.S. Navy, the Electric Power Research Institute, the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, Booz-Allen, Ochsner Clinic and Foundation, the Louisiana Governor’s office, and numerous other regional and local organizations. From 1998 through 2000, Dr. Logan was on special assignment to the Louisiana Department of Labor, where he was Technology Coordinator and a member of the Secretary of Labor’s executive staff as the Department implemented an integrated state-wide e-government workflow and public information system.
Dr. Logan has published numerous articles, proceedings, and book chapters primarily dealing with the areas of technology management and decision making in turbulent and negative environments. He is a past president of the Southwest Academy of Management.
Prior to entering academia, Dean Logan was an officer in the United States Air Force, serving in the Strategic Air Command. He was employed as an industrial and customer application engineer by ITT Corporation, and owned and operated 3 different entrepreneurial ventures. Before becoming involved with the management of the College of Business Administration, he consulted with a wide variety of organizations in the health care, strategic planning, and technology management areas. He is a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Dr. Logan is married to the former Ann Michele Bergeron, has two children, one of who is busy restoring a home in New Orleans. He is an avid sailor, who keeps a boat in New Orleans and thinks life is always better with 15 knots of breeze from the South.
